We know the Moto X is easy to customize, but is it easy to repair?

The Moto X used a single kind of screw (which means you don't have to go rooting for multiple driver heads), but was less thrilled with the hard-to-access battery.

The Moto X continues the trend of fusing the digitizer to the display. This is relatively standard at this point, as it reduces the weight and thickness of a phone. Unfortunately, this also means that to repair a cracked screen, a user must also replace the digitizer, which could increase the cost of repair. Still, in 2013, this is the norm.

The only real negative about tearing down the Moto X was getting it open. Motorola applied an adhesive under the back cover that made actually opening the phone a slow process.
Thee internal design of the device was very good.

Motorola’s New Keyboard-Packing Droid 5 Images Leaked

droid5-1Motorola after the launching of much anticipated smartphone Moto X, just showed off three new Droid smartphones with keyboard (or, if you prefer, one new Droid and two spinoffs), but it’s apparently not done cranking out Verizon hardware just yet. Another new Motorola device clad in Verizon livery was spotted in a batch of newly leaked images from Chinese social network Weibo, and it seems to hearken back to the Droid line’s roots.
Unlike the trim, all-touch smartphones that Motorola has been enamored with lately, the most eye-catching feature of the alleged Droid 5 is the same sort of slide-out QWERTY keyboard its forebears also had. According to Engadget, the D5 also has a display between 4.3 and 4.5 inches and a body that’s resistant to dust and water.
Curiously enough, that big five-row keyboard isn’t the only difference between whatever this is and the other Droids that have just started hitting store shelves. One of the images depicts a camera interface complete with a discrete shutter button on the touchscreen, a UI flourish that doesn’t exist on either the Moto X or the Droid Ultra. That super-simple, touch-anywhere approach to snapping photos on the go is a feature Motorola brass have been talking up for a while now, so it’s quite surprising to see that the company may be mulling a reversion toward the mean.
If we’re lucky, that just means Motorola is still trying to lock down some of its UI experiences… though arguably a solution the company already worked out was the better way to go. The grimmer scenario is that the Droid 5 outright lacks some of the niceties its cousins have, which is certainly one way to compartmentalize a product portfolio. At this point there are still more questions than answers, but judging by the fit and finish of the phone in those images, it shouldn’t be too long before Motorola officially springs this thing on us and all our questions are answered.

Motorola officially launched Moto X along with Moto Maker

motoMotorola officially launches the Moto X on Friday, along with Moto Maker — the tool that lets smartphone shoppers customize the look their new smartphones. Although the Moto X will be available on five carriers, Moto Maker is exclusive to AT&T at launch.Motorola will send your finished product within four days of your order — all for the same price as the standard-colored phones from store shelves.

Motorola's Moto Maker is a quick and easy way to customize your own smartphone. The process is exceptionally simple, and the results make your phone look like it was crafted by a professional. If you're looking to stray from the more traditional black and white phone models, Moto Maker is definitely worth a shot.

Easy to Create
Building your own phone using the Moto Maker is an exceptionally simple process. You can choose from 18 rear color choices, seven accent colors and two front plate colors. You can also customize the phone's launch screen, select your wallpaper and even connect the phone to your Google account so it's ready to go right out of the box.
Moto Maker takes you though the step-by-step process, and a virtual version of your phone is updated in the center of the screen as you customize each part.
Custom changes you make take effect almost instantly so you can very quickly see that the metallic purple buttons you've selected don't look quite right with the cherry back, or that a white front might complement your handset better than black.
The app offers a variety of colors, but strangely almost all of those colors seem to blend well with each other. I spent a good deal of time trying to come up with an “ugly” phone but was never quite able to do so.
If you like seeing things in the flesh before you buy, AT&T has “experience tables” in its stores where you can check out how some of the colors look in person. If you went into the Moto Maker experience knowing exactly what colors you want to use, you could could complete the whole customization process in less than five minutes.

Moto X launched,100% American!

The much anticipated Smart phone of this year Google's Moto X released. But for time being it will be available only to US citizen. It is 100% assembled in US and give users an opportunity to customize according to their like in both physical and digital realms.
Users will be able to head to what’s called the “Motomaker”, a webpage where customization options for the Moto X (and perhaps future devices from Motorola) will be able to be added to a cart after all of their bits and pieces are carefully selected. There the user will be selecting a Back Color, this including Cool, Neutral, and Warm colors, with 6, 5, and 7 color options included in each category. After that there’s a choice of 2 different front colors – black or white. Next are accent colors, this including a range of 7 metallic tones: blue, silver, yellow, red, purple, black, or orange.
colors
A choice of engraved signatures will appear for the user – just text in Motorola’s chosen font (for now), then it’s on to case choices. Cases will be optional – the same is true for all other accessories in the process, but they’re there to be delivered with the package if the user does so choose.
Accessories in the case category come from the company Incase. A wall charger is included with the package and you’ll be able to choose its color as well – made by Motorola. Headphone accessory ad-ons come from Sol and can be matched precisely with the colors of the user’s phone.
One of these devices is the Sol Republic DECK wireless speaker. This is part of what’s called the “M4DE for Motorola” collection which will also include Griffin, OtterBox, and more down the line. The user will also be able to choose whether they’d like 16GB or 32GB internal storage, what wallpaper(s) are included with the device, and whether or not they’ll be logged in to their Google account when the device arrives in the mail. Just as the option for an engraved signature appears for the back, so too does one appear for the lockscreen inside this phone’s OS – again, this will appear right out of the box.
sync
Once the device is ordered with this customization process, it’ll be delivered to the user “in 4 days or less”. This is inside the USA with each of the five major carriers inside the states (starting withAT&T and in an odd way T-Mobile), while Canada’s Rogers Wireless has announced the device with just black or white color choices in play.
There’s also word in the wild that a Moto X Google Play Editionmay be appearing “soon.”
Quick Capture allows you to take photos with a quick flick of your wrist. All you’ll need to do is pick up the phone and turn it quickly back to front – that’s a flick. Your camera will turn on and you’ll take a photo.Meanwhile you’ll have always-on microphone action with Google Now. You won’t have to unlock your device to work with Google Now, it’ll just be listening for your voice all the time. You can, of course, turn this off.The camera does a whole lot more as well – our hands-on camera demo here should show you how you’re able to take photos with extreme speed. Hold your finger down on the screen and you’ll take photos one after the other in a number only limited by the amount of storage you’ve got on the device.Meanwhile (also above) you’ll see slow motion recording – it’s just as easy to access, not nearly as buried beneath loads of feature lists like it is on the few smartphones we’ve seen working with slo-mo thus far. Also hidden under the surface is the OV10820, aka OmniVision-made sensor, able to capture 4K2k Ultra HD video. Not that you’ll be able to use it, of course, but it’s fun to know that it exists. We were also treated to an early look at the Motorola X8 computing system which uses 8 processor cores to go to work. This includes a dual-core customized Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, a single natural language processor, a contextual computing processor, and four Adreno 320 GPU cores. That’s eight cores for processing, but they’re not combined to make a single system-on-chip, nor are they considered to be a single unit. They work together, and according to information shared by Motorola’s Senior VP of Engineering Iqbal Arshad, they can work with “anybody’s CPU” in place of Qualcomm.Moto X works with a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 AMOLED RGB display panel on top of – as you know – a new Motorola X8 amalgamation of processing power. This smartphone measures in at 65.3 x 129.3 x 5.6-10.4mm and weighs 130g. Inside you’ll find a 2,200 mAh battery which Motorola claims will be working for up to 24 hours of “mixed usage.”On the back of the Moto X is a 10-megapixel camera with technology Motorola calls Clear Pixel. For connectivity the Moto X has WiFi a/b/g/n/ac with dual-band antennas, Bluetooth 4.0 LE+EDR, USB 2.0, NFC, Miracast, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors include GPS, a digital compass, and GLONASS.Up front covering this smartphone’s display is a pane of Corning Gorilla Glass while under the hood you’ll find a brand new haptic feedback system that’ll generate “more precise” physical feedback than on any other device. Initial editions will ring in at $199.99 for a 16GB internal storage edition while the 32GB edition will cost $249.99 – that’s attached to a 2-year contract, of course (we’ll see how this translates to a Google Play edition in the near future, we hope).
