Hello Kitty Butterfly S edition launched by HTC.
HTC officially announced the “limited edition” Hello Kitty Butterfly S today, which is now being showcased on the HTC Taiwan website. According to various Taiwanese media outlets that attended HTC’s launch event, the device will retail for NT$22,900 ($765) — the same price the Butterfly S went on sale for in Taiwan at the end of June.
The Hello Kitty Butterfly S also comes pre-loaded with nine Hello Kitty wallpapers — all the better for those madly in love with the cartoon cat.
The Butterfly S, which was unveiled in mid-June, is a top-tier handset on par with the company’s flagship HTC One that features a 5-inch 1080p display and runs Android Jelly Bean on a quad-core 1.9GHZ Snapdragon 600 processor. It also comes with an UltraPixel Camera, as well as a 2.1-megapixel front-facing wide-angle camera, and should provide plenty of juice from its 3,200 mAh battery.
There has been no word yet on subsequent launches of the Butterfly S in Asia or internationally, though it makes sense that if the Hello Kitty Butterfly S does well, other markets may gladly welcome it — and the cutesy cartoon cat could well help refresh the company’s image.
HTC One blue is coming on September 10.
The Blue version of the HTC One has been in the news for a while now, with leaked images, press shots, and images of the frame of the device surfacing over the past few weeks
A screenshot outlines a Sprint road map, mentions the blue HTC One has one of the upcoming devices, with an availability date of September 10. The HTC One is currently available from Sprint for $99.99 with a 2-year contract, along with a “buy one get one free” offer that the mobile carrier is running, with the second “free” device requiring another contractual commitment as well. The blue version of the HTC One will join the current lineup of white, black, and red that are currently available from the company.

Of course, the changes to the upcoming HTC One are purely superficial, as the hardware and software of the device is going to remain unchanged. But if you were holding out for a snazzier option, the blue version is certainly a good choice.
Since we all know what else is happening on September 10, it has to be mentioned that HTC and/or Sprint really know how to pick release dates. That being said, if you’re in the market for one of the best Android smartphones of 2013, “the b(lue)est HTC One since the HTC One” will soon be heading to a Sprint store near you!
HTC is planning to launch new mobile OS exclusively for Chinese Market.
The Taiwanese company is reportedly working with Chinese government officials to build a mobile OS that includes “deep integration” with China-specific services like Weibo, aimed specifically at the Chinese market. The project could see the new mobile OS launch before year’s end.Already HTC has some devices using the OS in active testing, and prototypes are in the hands of Chinese government officials.
Attempting to partner with a company to build a partially homegrown OS solution isn’t a new move for China. The Chinese government recently partnered with UK-based Canonical, the makers of Ubuntu, to build a China-specific version of its own OS that likewise favored integrations with China-made apps and services. In general, the Chinese government has been actively trying to lessen reliance on foreign-made software. A white paper from China’s tech ministry released in March criticized its country’s over-reliance on the Google-made Android OS.
A strategic alliance with the Chinese government could help HTC secure some good lasting power even as it faces challenges in terms of worldwide market share and sales of its Android-based smartphones. It’s unlikely that its own China-specific OS will pose any major threat to the dominance of Android and iOS, especially in the short-term, but if China’s government is serious about putting lasting investment in home-grown alternatives that favor Chinese software and services, building significant market share early might not be a necessary component of its survival.
Zara is coming!
The Zara name first popped up on our radars in early summer, when a report from Chinese media revealed that the Zara would be a plastic-built smartphone that would launch in the last quarter of the year alongside the flashier HTC One Max.
HTC seems to have kept the dual front speakers of the One (and presumably the BoomSound system), and, overall, the front of the leaked device looks pretty much like a plastic HTC One. On the back, it’s a different story, with the camera styling taking design cues from the Desire family. Of course, there’s no aluminum in sight.
In terms of specifications, @evleaks confirmed that the Zara would be a mid-ranger featuring a dual-core Qualcomm 400 processor, a 4.5-inch qHD display, 1GB or RAM, 8GB of storage (expandable), an 8MP camera, and a 2100 mAh battery. Interestingly, the software is Android 4.3 with Sense 5.5 on top, which would be a new version of HTC’s flavor of Android.
We believe we’ll get to see the Zara this fall, probably under a different name, with an official debut possibly in September.
